ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) is a framework for suicide intervention. It was developed for caregivers, professionals like mental health professionals, physicians and clergy who by virtue of their position are more often exposed to persons at risk. Through intensive training in a 2 day or 5 day format caregivers are prepared to intervene to stop a suicide.

ACE stands for Ask, Care, Escort, a three step process to use when confronted with someone who is at risk.

Ask
Ask directly: “Are you thinking of killing yourself?”
Care Intervene. Control the situation. Use active listening. Remove the means to do self-injury.
Escort Get them to a primary care provider, chaplain, or other healthcare professional.
